On this day of celebrating labor, brats, and beer or your favorite combination of similar items ponder if you will: could an average driver from the 1950's be dropped into an average modern car (average in how cars today are constructed, configured, controlled, number of buttons, etc)and be able to drive it and use it with a minimal amount of familiarization? So not just knowing where the pedals, wheel and stick are but also using the radio, windows, GPS, etc.

Yes? No? Or some sort of qualifier?

Well, I can get into a car from the 50s and get it started and running. So I would say yes, someone from the 50s could get in the average modern car and drive around.

Absolutely. For most of the average cars you still turn a key first...then put it in gear and drive. Now if you are talking...drop them into a gtr and have them enter race mode before lapping the ring...no they cannot

Well after he stopped looking for the choke knob and double pumping the gas prior to starting, sure he could...

I bet 103-year old Margaret Dunning could drive a modern vehicle (and change its oil), but I know she would be much happier in her trusty Packard...and so would I.

They could certainly operate the vehicle. Understanding the dashboard is another question. It would be a good test for a car, actually. If only we'd popularised cryogenic freezing in the '50s!
